How to Style Casual Shirts

A casual shirt is a must-have in everyone’s wardrobe and at Hanley & Co we have a large collection to choose from. One common theme we have found amongst our customers is that they tend to keep their shirts for a more special occasion which means that they aren’t getting the wear out of them. So we have decided to put together a guide on how to style your casual shirts so that you get your money’s worth when purchasing them.

How to style a shirt casually?

Here at Hanley & Co one of our most popular shirt brands is A Fish Named Fred. These shirts are quite dressy and are usually purchased for an event or an occasion but they can easily be dressed down just like how the shirt is styled above. A  shirt can be styled with a pair of jeans, chinos or shorts leaving the shirt untucked and the sleeves rolled back. Adding accessories such as a watch or sunglasses can also help you achieve this casual look.

What do you wear under a shirt?

Depending on the fabric of the shirt sometimes it is ok to wear nothing underneath the shirt as long as it is warm enough. The other option is to wear a vest which is made of light breathable material such as cotton. This vest will help to absorb sweat so therefore it prevents sweat patches, keeping the shirt looking fresh and clean. In the colder months, this vest will add an extra layer of warmth.

How to style a shirt with jeans?

As mentioned a shirt can be styled with jeans, chinos or shorts to create that casual look but what is important here is you have to put the look together right. The shirt must be paired with a well-fitting pair of jeans which are either skinny, straight-leg or slim fitting avoid relaxed or ill-fitting jeans as this will take away from the look. When choosing washes our advice would be to choose a dark wash as they always look best. The shirt can be tucked in or left out depending on your own preference. You can also roll back the sleeves and open the top button depending on how casual you want to look. Finish the look with a pair of casual shoes or trainers.

Can you wear a shirt without tucking it in?

You can wear a shirt with a pair of jeans or chinos without tucking it in by leaving the shirt untucked it gives a more casual and relaxed vibe. When opting for this look ensure that the shirt fits you right. You don’t want the shirt to be too big or it will look sloppy and untidy. The shirt must be long enough to cover your midriff. Ensure to style the shirt with a well-fitted pair of jeans and a casual pair of shoes that are tidy and smart.

Now that we have given you some tips on how you can style your shirt we will show you a few of our favourites.
